INTRODUCTION
This free CNE activity is based on presentations given at the CNE satellite symposium titled Patient Profiles In Psoriatic Disease: A Case-Based Approach, which was held on February 3, 2007 in Arlington, Virginia. Persons who attended the symposium are NOT eligible to receive CNE credit for this online activity.
Psoriasis has been diagnosed in almost 6 million Americans. Of those, 6-39% also experience psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Clinical studies demonstrate that joint damage occurs in many individuals with psoriasis well before the clinical manifestations of joint disease are present. Early recognition of the associated signs and symptoms of PsA could impact disease management.
Dermatology nurses are in a unique position to help in the diagnosis of this disorder through appropriate questioning and examination for early signs of PsA. Early and accurate diagnosis can lead to prompt treatment of psoriatic disease, which may improve long-term outcomes.
The Dermatology Nurses' Association (DNA) is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation (ANCC-COA). The DNA designates this educational activity for a maximum of 1.25 contact hours. Please note that the course is accredited only for nurses. All other participants receive a certificate of completion.
